The Sorrowful Mysteries

The Sorrowful Mysteries

We pray these mysteries to remember how much Jesus loves us and how He suffered to save us.

1. The Agony in the Garden

(Luke 22:39-46)
Jesus went to a quiet garden to pray because He knew He would soon suffer. He felt very sad and afraid, but He trusted God’s plan. Even when we feel scared, we can ask God to help us, just like Jesus did.

Prayer: Jesus, help me to trust God, even when I’m afraid.

2. The Scourging at the Pillar

(Matthew 27:26)
Jesus was taken by soldiers and whipped. It hurt Him so much, but He accepted the pain because He loves us. Sometimes, we go through hard times, but Jesus understands our pain and is always with us.

Prayer: Jesus, help me to be strong when things are hard.

3. The Crowning with Thorns

(Matthew 27:27-31)
The soldiers made fun of Jesus and put a crown of sharp thorns on His head. Even though people were unkind to Him, Jesus didn’t fight back. Instead, He showed love and forgiveness.

Prayer: Jesus, help me to be kind, even when others are unkind to me.

4. The Carrying of the Cross

(Luke 23:26-32)
Jesus had to carry a big, heavy cross up a hill. He fell down, but He got up again and kept going. Sometimes, life is hard, but Jesus teaches us to keep trying and never give up.

Prayer: Jesus, help me to be patient and keep going, even when things are tough.

5. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus

(Luke 23:33-46)
Jesus was nailed to a cross and died. Even as He was dying, He prayed for the people who hurt Him. His love for us is so big that He gave His life to save us. But this isn’t the end of the story—He rose again on Easter!

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for loving me so much. Help me to love others like You do.
