Prayer and Liturgy at Our Lady of the Rosary School

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

At Our Lady of the Rosary School, prayer and liturgy are at the heart of our school community. Rooted in our mission of Joy, Excellence, and Service, we nurture a deep relationship with God, providing every child with opportunities to grow in faith, reflect on the Gospel, and live out Christ’s teachings in their daily lives.

A School Community of Prayer

Prayer is woven into the rhythm of our school day, guiding us to seek God’s presence in all we do. We pray together in:

  • Daily Collective Worship, where we reflect on scripture, offer prayers, and celebrate our faith.

  • Classroom Prayers, marking the beginning and end of the day, as well as before meals.

  • Personal Reflection, encouraging children to deepen their faith through quiet moments with God.

  • The Rosary and Marian Devotions, honouring Our Lady and seeking her intercession.

Liturgy and Celebration

We gather regularly as a school to celebrate the richness of our Catholic faith through:

  • Whole School and Class Masses, where we come together to receive the Eucharist and grow in our understanding of the liturgical year.

  • Feast Days and Holy Days of Obligation, marking key moments in the Church calendar with joyful celebrations.

  • Celebrations of the Word, led by staff and children, fostering spiritual leadership and active participation in worship.

Living Out Our Faith

Prayer and liturgy inspire us to put our faith into action. Through acts of service, charity, and care for others, we follow Jesus’ example and strengthen our commitment to Catholic Social Teaching. We encourage our pupils to be faith-filled leaders, taking an active role in planning and leading prayer, supporting others, and growing in their understanding of God’s love.

At Our Lady of the Rosary, prayer is more than words—it is a way of life. By praying together, celebrating together, and serving together, we deepen our faith and bring Christ’s love into the world.

Praying the Rosary

"Pray the Rosary every day to obtain peace for the world." – Our Lady of Fatima

At Our Lady of the Rosary School, the Rosary is at the heart of our faith life. As a school community, we honour Our Lady of the Rosary, who calls us to pray and draw closer to Jesus through the mysteries of the Rosary. This beautiful prayer helps us to reflect on Christ’s life, seek Mary’s intercession, and grow in faith, hope, and love.

The Significance of the Rosary for Our School

A Symbol of Belonging

Each child who joins our school is gifted their own Rosary, a special sign that they are part of our faith-filled community. This Rosary reminds them that, just like Mary, we are all called to grow in love, prayer, and service to others.

A Prayer of Reflection and Faith
The Rosary invites us to meditate on the life of Jesus, from His birth to His resurrection. Through its joyful, sorrowful, glorious, and luminous mysteries, we deepen our understanding of God’s love and His plan for us.

Guided by Our Patron
As a school dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, we follow Mary’s example of trust, humility, and devotion to God. She teaches us to listen to God’s call and to live with Joy, Excellence, and Service in all that we do.

A Tradition of Prayer and Unity
Praying the Rosary unites us as a school family and with Catholics around the world. Throughout the year, we come together in special Rosary prayers, particularly in October (the Month of the Rosary) and May (the Month of Mary).

Bringing Peace and Strength
The Rosary is a source of peace, strength, and comfort. It helps us to bring our worries to God, to pray for others, and to seek guidance in our daily lives. As Our Lady promised, those who pray the Rosary with faith will find grace, protection, and spiritual growth.

How We Pray the Rosary in School

  • Class and Whole-School Rosary Prayers, as part of class prayer times during the year and with special significance in October and May.

  • Child-led Rosary groups, where children take an active role in leading prayer.

  • Opportunities for personal reflection, encouraging pupils to use the Rosary in their daily lives.

  • With members of our wider community, when we are joined in prayer by our Parish Rosary Group, as well as parents and carers.

We dedicate time each day for prayer in the classroom, allowing our students to pause, reflect, and connect with God. This time of prayer helps foster a sense of peace and mindfulness, encouraging children to make prayer an essential part of their daily routine. Whether in moments of quiet reflection or collective prayer, these daily practices nurture their spiritual growth and strengthen their relationship with God.
