Lectio Divina – Praying with Scripture
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” – Psalm 119:105
What is Lectio Divina?
A four-step way of praying with Scripture to listen to God’s voice. Lectio Divina translates as 'Divine Reading'. St. benedict write that, in prayer, we "incline the ear of our heart". Lectio Divna gives us time and space to listen with the ear of our heart.
In school, Lectio Divina:
Encourages Active Listening – Children learn to listen carefully to Scripture and reflect on what God might be saying to them.
Supports Spiritual Growth – It nurtures a deeper faith by helping pupils think about how Scripture applies to their lives.
Fosters a Reflective Prayer Life – Rather than just reading the Bible for knowledge, pupils engage with it as a living conversation with God.
Develops a Sense of Community – When done in groups, Lectio Divina allows children to share insights and see how God’s Word speaks differently to each person.
Promotes Stillness and Focus – The structured approach helps children develop concentration, patience, and a habit of quiet prayer.
