World Faiths

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself. Galatians 5:14

At Our Lady of the Rosary, we are committed to helping every child grow in knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Part of this is learning about the faiths and beliefs of others. From the start of primary school, Catholic schools are asked to include teaching about other world religions as an integral part of Religious Education.

Why we teach about other religions

Living the Gospel value of love of neighbour
Learning about different religions and cultures reflects our call to love and respect everyone. The Church reminds us that a true love of people includes a love and respect for their culture.

Following the guidance of the Bishops
The Bishops of England and Wales ask Catholic schools to help pupils understand the religion of their neighbours and experience something of their religious life and culture.

Welcoming families of all faiths
While most of our children are from Catholic families, a small number belong to other faith traditions. Exploring their own religious identity, while learning about the faith of others, shows respect and builds a community of hospitality.

Preparing for life in modern Britain
Understanding the beliefs of others supports mutual respect and social harmony. It equips children to play their part in society and contribute to the common good.

How we bring this learning to life:

We enrich our curriculum through first-hand experiences. Visitors such as a Rabbi and an Imam share their faith and traditions with the children, and pupils and their families are invited to talk to classes about their own beliefs and celebrations. We also arrange visits to places of worship of other world religions, giving our children the chance to see how faith is lived and celebrated beyond our own Catholic community.

Through our teaching about world faiths, we nurture curiosity, deepen understanding and build a culture of respect—helping our children to grow as thoughtful, compassionate citizens.
