Mission Week

Celebrating Joy, Excellence and Service
Monday 14th – Friday 18th July 2025

As we reached the end of the school year, our whole school family came together for Mission Week — a  celebration of our school’s mission: Joy, Excellence and Service. Each day focused on one element of our mission, explored through scripture, prayer, creativity, and action. The week provided space to reflect, give thanks, and celebrate all that makes Our Lady of the Rosary such a special place to grow and learn in faith.

"I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete."— John 15:11
On Monday, we launched our Mission Week, celebrating the heart of our school’s mission statement: Joy, Excellence, Service.

We began with the theme of Joy, reflecting on the special moments that bring happiness into our lives. Our Joy Wall was filled with wonderful family memories shared by our community, reminding us of the simple, powerful moments that lift our spirits. The day continued with a range of joyful activities including dancing and singing and ending with parents, pupils and members of the parish rosary group joining us to pray 'The Joyful Mysteries' of the Rosary.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord."
Colossians 3:23
On Tuesday, we celebrated ‘Excellence’ — and what a day it was! We started the day with a stunning performance from our amazing choir, filling the room with harmony and heart. Later, our talent show lit up the stage with incredible displays of skill including gymnastics, piano and dance. There was much hilarity when the teachers took to the stage to take their turn in the limelight!
Our End of Year Awards Ceremony honoured pupils who truly live out our values and virtues every day.

Each award celebrates a different strength of character:

  • Saint Oscar Romero Award – For standing up for what is right with courage and compassion.
  • Pope Francis Award – For leading with kindness, humility and joy, welcoming all.
  • Saint Cecilia Award – For musical excellence and enriching the life of our school through song.
  • Saint Catherine of Bologna Award – For creativity, imagination and artistic expression inspired by faith.
  • Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Award – For sportsmanship, teamwork, and joyful energy in physical activity.
  • Blessed Carlo Acutis Award – For growth, determination and a love of learning, especially in the face of challenge.
  • Saint Thomas Aquinas Award – For deep thinking, academic achievement and a genuine thirst for knowledge.

Pupils in Reception to Year 5 were also recognised with two special class awards:

  • Mission Award – for living out our mission of joy, excellence and service every day.
  • Values Award – for consistently showing our core virtues: humility, compassion, honesty, resilience, patience, eloquence, generosity, and faith.

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve."  Mark 10:45

Wednesday was all about living out the heart of our mission: serving others. From litter-picking, to baking cakes for visitors at Staines Community Centre, our pupils showed kindness in action. Older students supported younger ones, and everyone played a part in making a difference.

The highlight? Our Pop-up Café! Grandparents and 'senior' members of our parish community joined us for refreshments, games, and plenty of smiles. (Bingo was a big hit!) . Service is the foundation of our purpose—and we truly lived it.

"Just as each of us has one body with many members... so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." Romans 12:4–5
Thursday was a joyful celebration of our whole school community – a day filled with culture and connection. The children wore traditional dress or colours from their heritage: a proud display of identity and stories. We welcomed Kevin from CAFOD, who led an assembly sharing how our Lenten fundraising has made a real impact — an important reminder of the difference we can make together. Our Home Language Story Time was a heartwarming moment, with parents and grandparents reading stories in their first language; a beautiful way to pass on traditions and celebrate our roots. And a joyful finale to the day: our ‘Taste of Home’ event! Families brought in delicious dishes to share, creating a feast of flavours and friendship. Even the rain couldn’t dampen our spirits!  This is what community looks like — diverse, generous, and full of heart.

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”  Romans 12:12
On Friday, we ended our week with a whole-school Mass of Thanksgiving, bringing together all we had experienced during Mission Week. - After Mass, children wrote Mission Messages Forward — thoughtful handwritten notes to the children who will be joining their current class in September. These messages will be given as part of a welcome gift on the first day of the new school year, passing on hope, encouragement and kindness.
