Curriculum

So God created mankind in his image, in the image of God he created them, " (Genesis 1:27)
We believe that access to an ambitious, engaging and progressive curriculum is every child’s right; an entitlement that we must deliver. Our curriculum has been designed to enable every child to develop knowledge and skills across a breadth of subjects; the knowledge that is acquired through our subjects and themes underpins and enables the application of skills. This solid backbone of our sequenced and progressive units are enriched with purposeful and memorable learning opportunities, ensuring our lessons are stimulating, challenging and enjoyable.
Our curriculum is:
A — Ambitious
The curriculum sets high expectations for every child and fosters a culture of academic excellence and personal growth. Learning is challenging, aspirational, and built with progression in mind ensuring that pupils develop deep knowledge, rich vocabulary, and strong skills across all subjects. Teachers expect every pupil to engage meaningfully, think critically, and strive to reach their full God-given potential.
B — Bespoke
The curriculum is tailored to the specific context of the school; its local community, history, demographic, and unique strengths. It is not a generic or off-the-shelf learning model, but one shaped thoughtfully to meet the needs of this particular cohort of pupils. This includes adapting learning approaches, selecting purposeful resources, and embedding themes that reflect the lived experience of the children and families served by the school.
C — Child-centred
The curriculum begins with the child. It is grounded in an understanding of child development and promotes the holistic formation of each pupil—intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Learning is engaging, relevant, and motivating, building curiosity and a joy for learning. Safeguarding, wellbeing, inclusivity, and individual needs are at the heart of decision-making. Children are not passive recipients of knowledge—they are active participants and valued individuals.
D — Distinctly Catholic
The curriculum is rooted in the Catholic faith, Gospel values, and the teachings of the Church. Catholic Social Teaching shapes learning experiences and moral formation, encouraging pupils to live out values such as compassion, stewardship, dignity, and community. Prayer, worship, liturgical life, and religious education are central—not peripheral—and the curriculum helps pupils understand their role as disciples of Christ, fostering a sense of mission, service, and faith-filled living.

Teachers’ high aspirations ensure our curriculum is challenging, where all children will develop and confidently demonstrate independent thinking and ambition to achieve. These high expectations permeate across all aspects of school life and our pupils have a real sense of pride at being part of the school. They respond to the high expectations and demands that are made of them and develop important learning traits for their future successes.
At Our Lady of the Rosary, we relentlessly aim towards ensuring that the child that leaves us will continue to flourish and play their part in society making it a better place. They will demand the best of themselves and aspire for excellence, safe in the knowledge that they are equipped with everything that is needed to be a success and know that God is always by their side.
Our wider curriculum reflects the fact that we recognise the uniqueness of the individual, and their varied talents and interests.
